Contact and referrals

How to reach the neuromodulation program in Greenville, South Carolina, for ECT, TMS and ketamine consultations, and what a complete referral looks like. This page is a point of contact, not a substitute for care; in an emergency, call 911 or 988.

For patients and families

Treatment with ECT begins with a referral from a psychiatric provider; TMS and ketamine consultations are also usually arranged through your treating psychiatrist or primary care clinician. If you are not yet connected with a psychiatrist, ask your primary care office for a referral to psychiatry, or call the clinic below.

Questions before a visit

Bring this list

The How to Choose page has questions worth asking at a consultation, and each treatment page ends with a plain-language FAQ.

Consultations take place at the Grove Road office. Please bring a list of current medications, prior treatments and the names of your current clinicians; if you have had ECT, TMS or ketamine before, records of those courses are the single most useful thing you can bring.

For referring providers

The health system publishes dedicated lines for psychiatric providers referring for ECT. For TMS, ketamine or a general neuromodulation consultation, please send the referral to the Grove Road clinic and note “attention Dr. Hart”.

What to send with a referral

A complete referral lets the consultation focus on the decision rather than on collecting records, and it shortens the time to a first treatment when the situation is urgent.

  • Demographics, contact information, insurance, and the names of the referring and the continuing psychiatric provider.
  • Primary diagnosis, target symptoms and current severity (a recent rating-scale score if available); presence of psychotic features, catatonic signs, suicidality, and food and fluid intake.
  • Medication history with doses, durations and responses; prior ECT, TMS or ketamine and the response to each; current medications, including lithium, benzodiazepines, anticonvulsants and theophylline.
  • Medical history with attention to cardiac disease, implanted devices, neurological conditions, aneurysm, epilepsy, pulmonary disease, dental status and pregnancy; a recent ECG, laboratory results and imaging if done.
  • Baseline cognitive status or any neuropsychological testing.
  • Capacity concerns, guardianship or power of attorney, and the patient’s own view of the treatment being considered.
  • Urgency: inpatient status, active suicidality, inanition, catatonia, severe psychotic depression, or pregnancy with severe illness.
